Sex Offenders: An Introduction

"Sex Offenders" is a work in progress. It tells the story of a man pushing 50; a man with a lifetime of broken dreams and denied expectations. I have purposely left him nameless.

I look forward to your comments and feedback. And if any of you reading this blog are literary agents or publishers looking for new material, I'm looking for a contract!

This blogsite was set up for one reason and one reason only. I was tired of sending my work out and getting rejected. For decades now, I've gone the traditional route. I've read the writer's magazines. I've researched my genre. I've submitted my work to agents and publishers alike. Always got the same response: you're work is too controversial, you're work is too dark, you're work doesn't fall into the type of material we are looking for. It's not easy being rejected. It's easy to get discouraged even though they all said "You write well but . . ." Hmmm.

There have been many dark points in my life where I had made up my mind to give up writing for good. What was the point if no one was going to read it? What was the point of putting words to paper if I wasn't going to get paid for it? After all, it's every artist's dream to be acknowledged for his work and what better way of recognizing an artist's work than by paying them?

Each time I had made up my mind to give up writing, something would happen. There would be some kind of sign: someone would ask me out of the clear blue about a character I had told them about or they would ask how the writing was coming along. There would be a movie, or an episode of a television show that reflected what I was going through. One woman, to whom I had submitted a script that I co-wrote with a writer friend of mine, Bruce, actually called me last year when I was at my weakest and bleakest moment ever; this was almost a full year after she had read the original script! She wanted to know what we were doing, what we were working, what happened next to the characters we had created? There have been other signs. Way too numerous to mention.

Which leads me to the present.

After seeing the movie, "Henry Fool," which was recommended by my good friend, Shane, I decided to take my writing career into my own hands. What did I have to lose? This will either work in my favor or it will work against me. Either way, I guess I've been wanting to try something different, something a bit more drastic and untraditional. You be the judge.

And remember, I am looking for representation. I long for the development deal. I long for the publishing contract. Yes, I have other material I am working on. But for now, this is the piece I am most passionate about.
